Bloatware is dead, long live computing minimalism

12 December 2007 by Simon Mone

Bloatware? Computing minimalism?

Aren't business buzzwords great? I want the job of thinking up these daft terms instead of the one using them.

That notwithstanding,  I do see value in software being scaled down to provide just the functionality you are likely to use and this does seem to be a trend. Except in WCM software where it appears that, in order to show how proactive they are, vendors are layering fucntionality onto the their out of the box offerings.

There is a temptation to say 'Great. Extra functionality for no extra cost.' But there is extra cost in performance, training, learning curve etc. etc.

It's like the iPhone. Lots of great functions but not great for making calls.

Wow, what a blog!  I mean, you just have so much guts to go ahead and tell it like it is.  Youre what blogging needs, an open minded superhero who isnt afraid to tell it like it is.  This is definitely something people need to be up on.  Good luck in the future, man.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!

At this time, golfing equipment started to improve greatly. Golfing clubs were hand made from hardwoods like oak and hickory by skilled craftsmen. Pebbles and stones were replaced by the greatly improved leather ball which was tightly stuffed with feathers. Golf courses have been planned and designed to include sand traps and greens instead of just playing the land as it was. Still, most of the links courses in Scotland today, still retain the original feel of the original links exactly where the game was initial performed.

Hi. I read a few of your other posts and i wanted to say thank you for the informative posts.

This is definitely a blog that people need to get behind.  The problem is, no one wants to do a great deal of reading and not have something else to stimulate the mind.  This is the internet, after all.  Maybe if you added a video or two to emphasise your point.  Ill stick around, FOR SURE.  But, I dont know if others will.

Hiya, nice day.. Your work is quite striking. I never imagined that it was possible to carry out something like that until after I checked out your post. You definitely gave a great understanding on exactly how this kind of whole system performs. Ill make sure to come back for more information. Keep writing!
