Software as a service

1 December 2007 by Simon Mone

I have been reading a lot about software as a service recently and find it an increasingly attractive proposition. The idea is simple. An organisation can get access to software in a way that meets their needs and budget without having the extra costs of buying the software. They get regular upgrades and can increase the functionality of their offering as they need. Costs are more predictable and manageable. Generally there are no hardware costs and training requirements are reduced. What's on offer is everything from office applications to content management systems.

I am particularly impressed by an offering from one of our partners, Mediasurface, which I was given a tour of this week. The product is a hosted wcm called Pepperio and we liked it so much that we bought the company as Victor Kyam used to say. Well we didn't actually buy the company but we have bought into the whole Pepperio offering and  plan to add it to our portfolio in a new and exciting way! Sorry, can't say any more at the moment but in a typical piece of Scottish planning, the lauch of our new offering will involve Hogmany and alcohol! In the meantime, check out Pepperio at http://www.pepperio.com/

I just wanted to post a comment and say I'm feelin' what you're sayin'! You've got some good arguments and while I don't dislike everything you've said I think you make a strong case. Keep up the good work 'cus I'll be checkin' up on you later. This blog is on my radar now and I'm interested to see where things go.

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your thoughts?  I mean, what you say is important and everything.  But its got no punch, no pop!  Maybe if you added a pic or two, a video?  You could have such a more powerful blog if you let people SEE what youre talking about instead of just reading it.

The initial paid head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky was a man through the name of E.R. Sweetland who also concurrently coached the football team. Under coach Sweetland the future powerhouse experienced its first taste of success with its initial winning season (5-4) in 1909 and an impressive undefeated season (9-0) in 1912. It had been during this era that the nickname Wildcats was initial attached to the university. Commandant Corbusier, head from the school's military department, is credited with coining the term right after commenting that in a victory more the University of Illinois the Kentucky squad "fought like Wildcats." The nickname stuck and to this day college basketball fans close to the world know the University of Kentucky team as the Wildcats.

What can i say, humor is perhaps a sense of intellectual perspective: an awareness that some things are really important, others not; and that the two kinds are most oddly jumbled in everyday affairs. .
